 Getting Strong
The kids at Vance School in New Britain, Connecticut are
enjoying some fresh
morning air while logging on some miles in the Kid's Fitness
University
Program. Working Hard
Each lap the child walks, jogs or runs earns
them a stamp
on their card.
 Staying Healthy
Each completed card equals 5 miles and earns the
child a
cool prize such as a token in the shape of a foot which attaches
to their
shoelace, a water bottle, a pair of neon shoelaces and a medal
for
completing a total of 25 miles.
 Having Fun
The kids love the program
because it's fun
and because they earn cool prizes!!
Kris Collins is working with the Hartford Marathon in promoting this program to the schools in Connecticut. Please contact Kris at rn1run@aol.com for more information. I'm hoping that this Web site will encourage our young people to embrace running, stay healthy and be the best they can be. Please send us a description of your running program. Help us share with the school and running communities.

If the impetus started by Runner's World continues, 2000-2001 may very well be known as the 'Year of School Running Programs'.
