Jello Tag

Game by Victoria and Mrs. Goodrow's Class Art by Ashley
It's fun to play jello tag. We had a great time playing today. Here's all you need to know to play this game.
THE PURPOSE:
1. The aim of the game is for kids to have fun and run a lot! This will help them build endurance, as well as get some other kinds of exercise.
2. The kids need to realize that there isn't a winner or loser in this game. They will have fun running and being chased, but they should also let themselves be tagged after a while so that they can turn into jello and try some of the exercises.
GET READY IN THE CLASSROOM:
1. Practice spelling the words red, green, and blue. If a child just cannot remember how to spell these words, you can write the words on his/her hand with a magic marker.
2. Discuss the rules. 3. Practice the jello moves (red-jiggle, green-jump from side to side, blue-wiggle).
YOU NEED:
- Lots of kids.
-A playing area (field or gym). Areas designated as red, green, or blue jello. We used colored bean bags to designate these areas.
THE RULES (OR HOW TO PLAY):
1. The girls are 'it'.
2. The boys run and the girls chase them.
3. If a boy gets tagged, he must stop.
4. The tagger then spells a color. If she spells "r-e-d", the tagged child must walk to the red area and jiggle (wiggle whole body and jump a little) till he counts to ten, then he can run again. If she spells "g-r-e-e-n", the tagged child walks to the green area and bounces from side to side ten times. If she spells "b-l-u-e", the tagged child walks to the blue area and wiggles his arms and body while his feet stay still. Again he does this for a count of ten and then he runs.
After a while the teacher blows the whistle and the game starts over. This time the boys are 'it' and the girls run.
This game is just too much fun, but safety, when playing tag, is very important. The kids have to spread out and they should let themselves get tagged sometimes. They can run some fast sprints if no one is around, but they should also do some slow jogging if they are near other kids.
