Happy and Healthy Kids

The Lanigan Kids' Running Club is going strong again this year. Last year, we set our sites on Disneyworld and we made it with room (or miles) to spare. This year we are trying to make it to Salt Lake City, Utah (over 2060 miles away from Fulton NY!!!!!) and we're moving along. We're not there yet (in time for the Olympics) but we'll be there by school's end. We have over 60 kids who attend regularly and walk or run. While the winter has been fairly mild, we still have had some nasty days to contend with. In fact, I'm attaching a picture of some of the kids from yesterday when the temperatures dipped and it was a bit windy but the kids hung in there. Below is a notice sent to parents from last year's Lanigan Kids' Running Club. I'd like to print this for teachers who are visiting the site to give an example of an upbeat and informative way to communicate running club information to parents. WE MADE IT!! The United States Postal service has nothing on The Lanigan Kids' Running Club. Through sun, rain, sleet and snow we have made it to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida ñ 1250 miles!! Sound impressive? It is. We have said it many times, but the children in the running club continue to impress us. In fact, after hearing that we reached our goal, the kids quickly started offering suggestions for our next destination. Some suggestions: Denver; Texas; Australia; back to Fulton from Florida. To celebrate our reaching this major milestone, we are going to have a pizza party. It will be on Monday April 2ndth. We will have running club as usual from 3:30 to 4:15 and then we will have pizza and soda afterwards from 4:15 to around 5:00. You child will be bringing home an information sheet on the next day s/he attends running club. We hope that parents and family members can attend. Also, the Fulton YMCA is sponsoring a 5K run (3.1. miles) in early June. We have been talking to the kids about preparing for that. It would be great if we good get a group of Lanigan kids to run together. As we get more details, we'll pass them on to you.
