logo Reason to Run
You can make up poetry to the rhythm of your run.
See the marker in this KR logo? It's there because we know that running inspires writing. So that is why we are so excited to receive poetry from kid runners. Here is one from Karson. This poem earns Karson a free Runner's World T-shirt.

I Am

I am a runner
I wonder how good I'll be
I hear the click clack of shoes around me
I see the finish line
I want to be first
I am a winner

I pretend to be the best
I feel the air passing me
I touch the air slowing me down
I worry I'll trip
I cry if I do
I am a good runner

I understand I may not always win
I say nothing
I dream to be in the Olympics
I try my hardest
I think nothing of a defeat
I am Karson Sommer

FROM KARSON'S PARENTS
Our son has been running since he has been two years old. Countless medals, trophies, and age group awards, he is now in 5th grade. He recently had a writing project for his 5th grade class entitled "I Am". It is so appropriate and thought provoking for the runners in all of us that I wanted to share his inspiring words with you.

I hope these words put a smile on your face as they did mine. My husband and I are runners. We have four children, ages 10 - 3. To include the children, we run countless races. We are a true loving running family. Running is such a big part of our lives.

His next race will be in November. It's a fun 2-mile cross-country race where it's all about the obstacles and shortcuts, if you dare. This will be his 3rd year running this race. Last year, 2007, he came in 1st overall.
