SUPERIOR TRACK AND FIELD
Mansons team up to give kids head start on T & F careers

Summer Program |
The kids of Superior, Colorado are getting a head start on their track and field careers. Amy Manson & Pat Manson, two local competitive track & field athletes, began a program this past summer to introduce kids to their sport. Amy is a two-time Olympic Trials qualifier in the Marathon/5k and Pat is a three-time Gold Medalist in the Pan American Games in the pole vault.
The program is for kids in grades K-8 and meets twice a week from 5-6:30 pm. Each night after the kids are led through a warm-up and stretching, they are divided up into age groups and rotated through the highlighted events for the evening.
Typically the kids compete in one running, one throwing and one jumping event each night. They are divided up into three teams and can earn points for their teams by placing top 5 and/or for achieving personal bests.
Special clinics are held as well. This summer they had Kevin Little - former indoor 200 meter World Champion and Marybeth Idoux, former throws/multi events coach at the Universities of Colorado and Kansas, come do clinics on their specialties.
At the end of the six-week program the kids are given a certificate with all of their season personal bests. Thanks to the Boulder Running Company and to Sharkies all natural sports snacks for their sponsorship of the program.

Amy presents a program called "Goaled Kids" at school assemblies and parent/child workshops on goal-setting.
This program is not athletic specific - it's to
encourage kids to set positive goals and make the positive decisions
neccesary to achieve those goals. Amy offers a 45 minute interactive speech and
then leaves the kids with a simple goal-setting workbook to fill out for their
own goal. She developed the program for kids aged 8-12 but has done it for all
ages. She charges a fee plus travel expenses. If it is out of state, it works best to have a few area schools or
programs share the cost of travel.
