My Dreams by Suzy Favor Hamilton

Victoria dreams of being the first girl on the Boston Red Sox.

My dreams as a kid tended to revolve around running. Surprise, Surprise!

I first started to dream about being in the Olympics when I saw the 1984 games on television. I remember being in my basement and watching the 3000 meters where Zola Budd and Mary Decker collided. I found myself thinking someday I would love to be in the Olympics.

I then started to dedicate myself to running in a big way. I ran year round in high school, even during my lunch hour. I just felt if I worked really hard, I may have a chance to do it.

Then when I made my first Junior Olympic team, the head manager sat down with the whole team to give us a pep talk. I remember him telling us that we were the future Olympic team.

That talk really inspired me. This man was telling us WE were the future. I'm glad I had role models and people who believed in me. I feel lucky to have had my dreams come true.

Editor's Note: Running and writing are more fun when they are combined. Warm up for our upcoming contest. Lace up your running shoes and get out the door. Start up slowly, then pick up the pace and have a great run. Cool down, drink and stretch, then break out that running journal and let 'er rip!

Please check back for more information to be announced later this month. Keep running, have fun, and stay healthy!
