My dreams as a kid tended to revolve around running. Surprise, Surprise!
I
first started to dream about being in the Olympics when I saw the 1984 games
on television. I remember being in my basement and watching the 3000 meters
where Zola Budd and Mary Decker collided. I found myself thinking someday I
would love to be in the Olympics.
I then started to dedicate myself to
running in a big way. I ran year round in high school, even during my lunch
hour. I just felt if I worked really hard, I may have a chance to do it.
Then when I made my first Junior Olympic team, the head manager sat down with
the whole team to give us a pep talk. I remember him telling us that we
were the future Olympic team.
That talk really inspired me. This man was
telling us WE were the future. I'm glad I had role models and people who
believed in me. I feel lucky to have had my dreams come true.
