School embraces running, Shelly Upton, PE Teacher ![]() Buda, Texas - Our vision started 5 years ago when the school was first built. However, with the school being new there were "more important" items that needed to be addressed. Nevertheless, we didn't give up. Every year, when CIP (Campus Improvement Plan) would meet and ask for us to vote on "big" items, we would put down a track for the students. We participated with Marathon Kids every year, with each year, increasing involvement and interest. Many teachers began running with their students. When the time came around this year to vote on "big" items, there was an overwhelming vote for a track. I personally believe Marathon Kids played a part in the "push" to make the track a reality. Using a community based program that promotes lifetime fitness and the support of our staff and PTA, our deam came true. It's not what we had pictured in the beginning; however, it is a symbol that our school, Elm Grove Elementary in Buda, Texas and its community promotes fitness for our students. Friday, December 15, was our ribbon cutting ceremony. Kay Morris, of Marathon Kids, was here to say a few words on lifetime fitness and our students will take their first lap. I hope that this is an encouragement to all schools to set goals and not to give up until they are achieved. Thanks for caring, thanks for sharing. ![]() E-mail the editor at KidsRunning.Com with comments on this article. goodrow@infionline.net ![]() |
