ROOSEVELT RUN & READ MARATHON
School program

spotArt from Happy Feet, Healthy Food by Carol Goodrow (April 2004)

Here's a nifty way to motivate children to run and read. Join up with the Roosevelt School and have a Run & Read Marathon. Contact PE TeacherTom Griffin for more information.

From Tom: Rationale: Physical fitness and reading ability are two very important areas for "life-long" success in today's society. To support this endeavor, this project is designed to offer special recognition to those students who complete running a distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) and read for a total time period of 26.2 hours. (Not all at once, of course!) Students who successfully complete these running and reading requirements will receive a "Certificate of Achievement" and have their first name, and school name, listed in the Read & Run Marathon Hall of Fame Web site.

To further the use of technology, we invite other schools to participate in the Read & Run marathon. Through the use of a large wall map, our students will keep track of the location of these participating schools. Students also send emails and digital photos of their participation and progress to all schools involved.

To register your school for participation, or for further program description, please email me at tbgriffin@ames.k12.ia.us or visit our Web site at http://wwww.ames.k12.ia.us/schools/roosevelt
