boys READ, RIGHT & RUN -The GO! St. Louis Read, Right, & Run Marathon® launched in 2001 and quickly gained national recognition as the country's only fully integrated marathon for children. The Read, Right & Run Marathon's goal is to develop reading proficient, physically fit and community minded children by challenging them to READ 26 books, RIGHT the community with 26 good deeds, and RUN 26.2 miles over a six-month period.

It is a standards-based, sustainable enrichment program that endorses and supports existing school curriculum. New in 2008 is the inclusion of the Saint Louis Public Schools into the program, which will introduce the initiative to an additional 20,000 young students. More than 24,000 students are expected to take part during the 2008-09 school year. Students chart their miles, books and good deeds through a colorful journal, which serves as keepsake for many years to come. Students are presented with a special finisher certificate and medal upon completion of the program.

As part of the program, a special kick-off event is held each fall at a local park. The event introduces new and participating students to the three program goals through a reading/story-telling area, an environmental awareness area and a one-mile fun run. The GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon program is presented by Centene Corporation and underwritten by the St. Louis Rams.

Close to 5,000 students will run their final 1.2 miles (middle schoolers run 3.1 miles) at our Family Day in Forest Park, set for April 18, 2009, while the remaining students in the program participate in a final celebration at their individual schools.
