MEDTRONIC TC KIDS MARATHON Enhanced and expanded effort to inspire healthy lifestyles among children
The Medtronic TC Kids Marathon is a program that encourages students in grades K-6 to get healthy and fit by running one mile at a time. Along the way they learn about the fun and fitness by running with their classmates or families.
The www.mtcmarathon.org/KidsMarathon Web site offers a unique Web site with tools for coaches, teachers and parents.
You can find:
1. Free online training programs
2. A "progressive marathon" that can be tracked online
3. Model running events which will help you design events for your communities
This is a year-round program. It was kicked off in Feb. 2007 when Governor Tim Pawlenty and elementary students from Minnehaha Academy put on their running shoes to help launch the Medtronic TC Kids Marathon. The governor and students took some of the first steps of the new online youth running program, which was developed to promote exercise among Minnesota children by combining flexible training programs and incentives with a series of youth running events.
Governor Pawlenty announced a new Healthy Minnesota Fit Workplace initiative, a program designed to promote and recognize healthy workplace environments across Minnesota, and unveil a program designed to reduce childhood obesity in Minnesota by 50 percent by 2012.
Virginia Brophy Achman is the Executive Director of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.
