CVS 2001, GOD BLESS AMERICA, PATRIOTIC TRIBUTE
Providence, RI, September 16

Photos/Carol Goodrow KR/RW

Many of us spent the day weaving through the streets of Providence, helping raise money for the Red Cross, and doing what we do the very best; sharing our love of running with other runners.

God bless America.

Land that I love

Stand beside her, and guide her

Thru the night with a light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies

To the ocean,

white with foam.

God bless America,

My home, sweet, home.

Here's a special message from CVS participant and ultrarunner Kevin McGovern for our running kids.
The stars up above, provide the light,
That protects us all, at night.

Kevin poses with ultrarunner Danielle Cherniak after the Nifty Fifty in 1999. Goodness knows, the light, from the stars, also guides ultrarunners on some of their longer treks. An ultrarunner runs marathons that are longer than the 26.2 mile marathon. For a family photo and a little bit more about Kevin, please click here.
The CVS races were a needed break after a tough week in America. We ran to make our country and our bodies strong.
