It was another beautiful sunny day in the Hildene Meadowlands, in Manchester, VT. The fields were full of families all ready to run. There's an opportunity for everyone to exercise at this event: Steeplechase for kids, 5k Run for Women, 5k Run for Men, and a family 5k Walk. As always, the valley was bright green, the mountains blue-gray, the sky light blue, and the signs, that spell love, were bright pink. I took lots of photos to share the sense of this event with our visitors. I hope you enjoy them and that they will inspire you to someday attend a Race for the Cure.

It's the start of the Steeplechase. Here they come!

The boy in blue is up from a spill, but with a boo boo. Dad knows just what to do. He'll run the kids' Steeplechase with his son.

Then the little guy makes us proud as he leads Dad to the finish.

The six to twelve year olds run through one of the many gates.

Time for the award ceremony. Austin, who is running for Mommie, is called up for the first place prize.

Oops, it's the wrong Austin. Austin has to return the toy but gets a better prize, a hug from Mommie.

The other Austin smiles for the camera.

In five minutes the aerobic warm up will begin, but there's still time to pose with family for a photo. Everyone in this group is running for a loved one.

Even Echo, the dog, gets to join the largest team from the Vermont Country Store today.

Dancing warms your muscles.

Justin Easter, from Rebecca's Roadies, wins the Men's 5k for 2 years in a row!

Ice cream's a great treat after a day of running.

This day is always full of light hearted fun, but beneath the carefree surface is a message of deep love and hope for the people in our lives, who have been or who are now, affected by breast cancer. If you are interested in helping fight the battle of cancer, then this is an event to attend. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for women in the 35 - 54 age group.

The Komen Foundation provides valuable resources for people who are touched with breast cancer through a toll free helpline at 1-800 I'M AWARE (1-800-462-9273). This helpline is answered by trained caring volunteers.
The Komen Vermont Race for the Cure is one of many events. As of today there are events in 112 cities across the nation. For more information on combatting breast cancer visit breastcancerinfo.com.
