RUNNING BOOKMARKS The Collection: Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring ![]()
Summer-Track: Let 'er Rip - Run fast with Alan Webb. "The track is my home...."RUNNING AND LITERACY GO TOGETHER For the parents: -Take your son running with you. Then have him write that letter to Grandma and Grandpa. He'll have plenty to say. Writing will no longer be a chore. - Read a story to your daughter about a child's first fun-run medal. She'll want to earn a medal, too! And for students: -Have writer's block? Go out for a run and ideas will come. -Can't concentrate on that text? Race around the block a few times, then open that book. You'll be able to relax and read. For the teachers: -Take your children out for an XC run. Somewhere on your trail, find a sunny spot and form a circle. Take turns saying sentences about the run. Go indoors and hand them running journals. They'll have plenty of ideas to write about. - Want to motivate your kids to each read 10 books? Promise them a classroom/family mile run when each student completes that number. Watch them turn those pages. For the kids: -Reread "The Gingerbread Boy". Then go to your back yard and "Run, run as fast as you can." And when you come back in, write your own version of "The Gingerbread Boy". Notes on the Track Bookmark: See Alan Webb running with a spoon? It's not "egg" in his spoon, but mint chocolate-chip ice cream. This was his pre-race ritual, having a small bowl of this treat before each big race. See a 2003 interview with Alan. The back of this bookmark has 2 original quotes by Alan Webb. Running inspires creativity, helps you focus, expends energy, and allows you some quiet time to think. It's in this spirit, we are happy to announce that KR has a new and revised set of running bookmarks with quotes by Deena Kastor, 2004 Olympic Medalist, Alan Webb, Outdoor 1,500m Champion, Dathan Ritzenhein, 2004 Olympian, and Melissa Donais, Millrose Mile Champion.
