The Activate Attleboro Step Challenge is a friendly walking contest in the Attleboro Public School system.

Rules of the contest: Each 4th and 5th grade student was given a pedometer to measure the number of steps they took. For the 5th grade Challenge the homeroom teachers recorded the daily steps each student took and reset the pedometers to 0 daily. The 4th grade teachers did the same. Students were allowed to record steps on the weekend. The students WERE ALLOWED to take the pedometers home and count steps.

The last day of the contest was May 5. The results of the contest were announced May 6th at the annual YMCA & Community Healthy Kids Day.

Healthy Kids Day was an action packed morning of physically active games, exhibitions, and contests for young people in the community located at Balfour River Walk Park in Attleboro. It started off with Youth Road Races - 1/2 mile and mile at 8:15 a.m. From 10:000 a.m. to noon there are Hula Hoop Contests, Water Balloon Contests, Sprint Races, Relay Races, a Climbing Wall, and exhibitions of karate, Hip Hop Dance, and more. The winners of the Activate Attleboro Step Challenge were announced and awards were presented at this event.

*Activate Attleboro is a Coalition made up of Community leaders committed to making Attleboro MA a more Healthy Active Community. Encouraging increased physical activity and healthy nutritional habits in the community are the coalition's goal.
