From America to Australia

"The Laurel Wreath" by Autumn

Dear Mr. Burfoot,
We are in Mrs. Goodrow's class. We are studying geography and the continents. We started with Australia. We looked at Australia on the globe and on the map. We were wondering which route you took to get to Australia. Did you fly west across the U.S.A. or did you fly east across the Atlantic Ocean?

We wish that we were in Australia with you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Goodrow's First Grade Class

P.S. We would like to publish your reply on kidsrunning.com.

Dear Class,
Thanks for writing to me in Sydney. I have jetlag--I can't sleep! It's 3:30 in the morning as I write this to you.

I flew west to Los Angeles, California and then nonstop from Los Angeles to Sydney, which took about 14 hours. It was the most time I've ever spent in one plane.

Because this is Down Under, the seasons are reversed. It's spring here now. Think about a nice day in late April and you've got it about right.

Sincerely,
Amby Burfoot
