THE ENERGIZER READ, RIGHT, & RUN MARATHON™
Integrated approach to fitness

Energizer Kids

Here's a hugely successful "kids' marathon" with a new twist. Besides becoming healthy in mind and body, the children will help the people in their cities and towns by participating in community service projects.

The Energizer Read, Right, & Run Marathon™ is an integrated approach that addresses three major concerns that face our youth: literacy; character education & community service; and health & fitness. The mission of the program is to encourage children to be physically fit, reading proficient, and community minded. To that end they are challenged to read 26 books, run 26.2 miles and "right" the community by performing 26 good deeds.

It is important for children to learn to give to others and they express this through a variety of venues. Community service projects may be as organized as conducting a school rummage school with proceeds donated to local children's charity or making care packages to be distributed to children at pediatric hospitals, or even odd jobs at school, community centers or churches. Smaller children seem to focus good deeds at home with family members. These children may walk the dog, take out the trash, or help their grandparents with chores.

Last year, more than 1300 children participated. The event will be held on April 3, 2004 after the 2004 US Olympic Team Trials - Women's Marathon!
