 SHIZUKA Family: My brother Sho
Sho stands at the far left.
Our family has two accomplished runners: my younger brother and me.
I love it when we can run in the same race. I love to watch him run.
I am so proud of my little brother Sho, because people used to call him "Shizuka's little brother" when he ran . One would ask, "Is he fast?"
And another would answer, "I don't know but his older sister is."
However, it didn't seem to bother him, for they would slowly begin to recognize him for his own talent.
My brother has had a perfect season in the 100 meters with no losses. Two years ago, he was the youngest to receive a sports medal for achievement at the age of 8, and now, this year, he is a hopeful, from my city, to go to the All-Japan Championship for elementary school kids. If he makes it, he will be the first person from my city to go to the championship since I went to elementary school.
And next year his 4x100 meter relay will be a favorite to win the state and go to the All-Japan Championship, which would be a first in a long time. It's said that in our state the east is long distance and the west is short distance runners. We live in the east.
Sho already has two city and state championship titles in the 100 meters and two long distance section fastest award medals.
His start is lighting fast and mine is average. He has already mastered the curve, just as I have.

KR INTERVIEW
KR: Shizuka, do you train with your brother?
SHIZUKA: Yes, my brother and I were on the same team for three months when I was in the sixth grade and he was in second grade.
KR: Do you help your brother with his running?
SHIZUKA: I do give my brother advice about running from time-to-time, usually about running long distance. I sometimes have to remind him to start out at a pace he can maintain, so he won't be exhausted at the end when it counts the most. We still run together in the city championship, every year. It's always a lot of fun.
KR: Will your brother ever be faster than you?
SHIZUKA:
Yes, one day my brother will be faster and better than me. It's a fact for sure. We are like sports cars. I am the first model and my brother is a later and better model. My old coach said it. He is preparing my brother for the problem I now experience. His start is lighting fast and he runs in the first and third spot on the relay, so his curve is good. I always ran in the second and fourth spot.
I didn't start running corners until junior high. My brother will someday be a world-class runner or dancer. He's very good at both.
