RUNNING WITH MY SON, STEVEN
Mom and Steven run together throughout the years

Kids and Parents
At KR, we love to hear about kids running with their parents.

For Kids:
1. It's fun.
2. It creates a bond that can't be broken.
3. It's a way to help your parent stay young!

If you are a kid who runs with your parent, please let us know. If you are a parent who runs with your kids, we'd like to hear from you, too.

mom and son Hello KidsRunning.Com,

I enjoyed reading (in Runner's World magazine) how other parents entertain running with their children.

Here is my story:
My son, Steven, began running at the age of 7. He asked to run with me during my usual track workout where for years he'd "played" in the long jump pit as I ran my laps.

"Try to make it around four times," I said. "That'll be one mile."

He was on my heels for my 9 minute mile, never stopping.

Now, he's 15 and with a 4:59 PR 1600, I can't run with him anymore. But, we do run "together".

mom and sonWe'll clock an out and back route, estimate our enroute time and leave our home accordingly with the goal of "finishing" together. (We also try to estimate the point where we will cross paths for an added challenge.)

Our last nine miler had me finishing in a dead sprint with Steven on my heels ... just like old times.

Sincerely,

Barbara J. Andersen
