![]() RELAY FOR LIFE by Vaughn, Port Huron Cheetahs Track Club QUOTE "It's a fun time to be had by all but it gets really emotional at night when all of the candles are lit for the deceased and they read off all of the names of people that were taken by cancer. Also for the people that are battling cancer now or have beat it, they are given a red sash to wear and they lead off the festivities by walking around the track in a parade.Very touching and inspirational moment to see all of that courage and determination to beat this deadly disease in those peoples eyes and to even watch the purpose in their steps as they march forth in this battle." - Keith Rivers, Coach RELAY FOR LIFEMy experiences at the Relay for Life were great. Every year my track team, the Cheetahs teams up with Best Buy for this event. I have been going to the Relay for Life for two years now. The reason why I go to the Relay for Life is because I like to help people who have cancer and run for them and also to give donations for cancer research so hopefully they can find a cure. There are a lot of people at the Relay for Life who are fighting cancer and some have beat it. I get to see these people who are fighting cancer and see people who care just like me giving donations to the Care Free Cancer program. I also get to see people from all over the country. The Relay for Life is also a good place to eat. They have cake, chips, hot dogs, cookies, pizza, and pop. Best Buy supplies the food for our team. Most of the people who go to the Relay for Life have tents and stay the night because it's a 24-hour relay. Everyone takes turns over the 24 hour period running or walking around the track. Oh yeah! They have fun rides too! They have mountain climbing, a titantic ship and a train. Then they have a mini basketball game to get prizes. You have to make the most baskets. Next to track & field, basketball is my next favorite sport. So all I have to say is Relay for Life is fun and good - so take my advice and go when there is one near you. This event is organized by the schools and takes place during school hours. If your school has one of these, make sure that your children participate. It is IMPORTANT for every athlete to take part in at least one charity event each year, no matter the level of expertise or fitness. It's a great way to feel you are doing something to help someone, somewhere, sometime. It's a great way to "give back". ![]() Jolie, Olivia, and Clark cheer on a family member ![]() Privacy Policy of Kids Running |
