![]() PEDOMETER DAY In Your Classroom ![]() Work and play! Have a "Pedometer Day" in your classroom. It's simple. Send home a note asking your parents to send their children to school with pedometers. Then have your kids work and play. - Write a sentence. Then walk a lap around the room. - Do 5 math problems and walk to the drinking fountain. - Write a story and take a walk up and down the hall. OPTION Plan ahead for pedometer day and hand out a list of school-work activities and "walk" rewards that follow. Let kids pick and choose the order. Let your students participate in the pre-planning. The possibilities are unlimited. Pedometer Day is a lot of fun and also very effective. If a student is having trouble remembering to use upper case letters, then use "upper case letters" as the criteria for taking a walk. Correctly punctuate a sentence, then walk a lap. Then write another sentence with correct punctuation and take another lap. When the lesson comes to an end, eat a healthy snack and get out your Happy Feet, Healthy Food Books and fill in a journal entry. "I did 20 laps in the classroom," or "I walked 1000 steps (or 2000, 3000, etc.)." goodrow@infionline.net ![]() ![]() Privacy Policy of Kids Running |
