WORLD RUN DAY 2 What's in your Heart by Carol Goodrow, KR/RW
 My Route

On this page you can see the first 400 meters of my running route.
-I head south down my country road
-into my tiny New England town,
-turn left by the little shops,
-stop and stretch my hamstrings at the red light
-and cross the highway into the antique village,
-through the winding wooded road,
- out to the yellow sunshine,
-across the short bridge,
-left by the chocolate candy store,
-up the deserted old highway,
-left to the tiny town
-and loop around to go home again.
Last year I saw only 3 flags on my 6 mile route; this year a million, and last year there were none on the first 400 meters that you see on this page.
WORLD RUN DAY 2
The world has changed and it was and is in more need of my World Run Day outing this year than last. Here's what I ran for:
1. I ran for peace: peace of mind, peace of heart and peace in the world. PEACE, I made the peace sign when I passed another runner. It was like being back in the 60's!
2. I ran for life; life for others: my kids, my friends, my students, and my own!
I want to have another birthday cake, with candles, and pink icing, in fact I want many, even though I know I'm getting OLD...almost ANCIENT!
3. I ran for love: love for and from my family and friends...my dogs.... I know that love is the most important thing in the world,,,TRUE LOVE!!
4. I ran for art: I want more time to get lost in my work, to draw, to write, to photograph, and to find a new way to approach a problem. I love to get LOST in my work.
5. I ran for health: for the doctors, nurses, and research and for good habits that help keep us healthy. HEALTH and FITNESS go hand and hand.
6. I ran for running: for the fun, for the outdoors, for the feeling of SWEAT. A run isn't anything without SWEAT and lots of it. Oh, yeah, Kids, you don't sweat till you get older...Hey, it's something to look forward to; a SWEATY RUN!!
7. I ran to stay fit: to keep the pounds off, to keep my muscles strong and flexible, to keep my heart beating smoothly. BA-DOOP, BA-DOOP
8. I ran for nature: to enjoy it, experience it, to see what I could see...right, left, up, down, and all around, and to be part of it OUTDOORS.
Here are some things I notice on my runs: TREES
FLOWERS GRASS CLOUDS RAIN
LEAVES SNOW
SKY
TEMPERATURE LIGHTNING
WIND MIST PUMPKINS
Here are some animals that I have seen on my runs: SQUIRRELS NEIGHBORHOOD BIRDS DOGS DEER WILD TURKEYS SEAGULLS CATS BUTTERFILES SKUNKS WOODCHUCKS DUCKS BUGS BEES COYOTES MICE HORSES CHIPMUNKS RABBITS
9. I ran for my Web site: to take some photos to share with others and to inspire others to run, to move their legs and pound their feet...KIDSRUNNING.COM a very cool kids' Web page.
10. I ran for America. I've always believed that our country was special, a place to respect, a place that stood for: COURAGE/RED LIBERTY/WHITE and LOYALTY/BLUE ...red, white and blue...my country...my home.
Oh, yeah! I ran for CHARITY...
And I am donating some money to the Lupus Foundation, to Running for America, and I'm sending something special to my own children.
Maybe next year you'll run with me on World Run Day 3!

And for teachers: I read this story to my second graders. They were very interested and they indicated that this World Run story inspired them to write. Here is Rusty's story.
l liked the horses. I would like to ride a HORSE. I would like to feed a horse. I would feed them carrots and apples. I would like to walk them up the road. I hear click click up and down my road. The horses are being walked up and down. The horses are wagging their tails. by Rusty
To all of our visitors: If you read my story, thank you very much. I'd love it if you'd let me know.
