LOOK AND SEE HOW THEY RAN
Lynn Jennings

Running with a Springer Spaniel
FROM LYNN: Otis, my childhood dog, was a fabulous runner and my best friend. He died when I was 26...he was 17. All those running years. My current dog, Towhee, is a gorgeous little cattle dog mix. Her dad was a blue speckle australian cattle dog, mom was a shepherd mix. She is a 42 pound wee package of athleticism and sweetness. She is 10 months old and already a running and trail enthusiast. As fast and handsome as a towhee. Our Ba-ba-Doop Poetry Unit
KR Mini-Interview

KR: Which sports did you play at the age of ten?
Lynn: Sorry, no real sports news from when I was ten.

KR: Did you participate in any training for running?
Lynn: No, but I won my first ever race when I was six years old. I was in private school outside of Glasgow, Scotland. It was Athletics Day. I was ahead by a mile but didn't know what to do when I saw the finish line tape. So I stopped and ducked under it!

I was always the fastest kid in elementary school. At field day in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades I was always the fastest; even faster than all the boys.
I would ask my father to time me as I ran around the house. We had a large house and lots of land in Harvard, MA.

KR: Did you run during your playtime?
Lynn: At ten years old I was already an iconoclast. I loved to explore in the forest with Otis. I was a tireless reader. And I was already a major bird enthusiast. I was serious and introverted and very much a loner. My sister Della who is my best friend is my emotional twin and we did a lot of things of the above nature together. I loved being outdoors. I loved to read. I loved to do things on my own with Otis. I had an exceptional vocabulary at a young age and loved to read and write.

KR: How many hours or miles did you spend or cover on running and other sports?
Lynn: Many!
