Kid Runner ![]() Photo courtesy of pixel-run.com. March 11, 2004 KR: Was the 2004 Boston Indoor track meet the first time you participated in an event with your dad? Craig: No. We have run races together before. We have also run races where my dad, mom, sister and me all run. KR: Do you ever run with your dad? Tell me about it. Craig: Yes, I run with my dad. We usually do 2-4 miles and sometimes some sprints. I run about 3 times a week and sometimes my dad takes me to different places to run so it's always fun and exciting. We do trail runs a lot at the around the lake. A lot of times I just run with my dad at races when warms up and cools down. When we run together I always out sprint him at the end. KR: What other kinds of physical activities do you participate in? Craig: Street hockey, football, baseball, basketball, rollerblade, and skateboard. Go to the mall or movies, go to a skate park, hang out at a friend's house, talk on the phone or Internet, play sports. When I'm by myself, I like to play Play Station 2, go online , take a nap, skateboard, rollerblade. With my Chihuahuas, I like to play fetch. KR: Who is the strongest influence on you to exercise in your family? Or does it just come naturally? Craig: I think my dad is my strongest influence because he knows how to make running fun and watching him compete is exciting for me, too. KR: Do you eat healthy food? Craig: Sometimes I'll eat healthy food like fruit and some vegatables, but most of the time I eat what ever I want. KR: Was the Boston Indoor relay event fun for you? Craig: Yes the event was very fun for me. I love relays because it makes the race more of a team event. Some events I remember I did are: Old home day 5-K in Plaistow, Cross Country New Englands Regionals and Nationals, Thankgiving day 5-K in Andover, 4th of July race in Kingston, four mile Make a Wish International Friendship Run. Run a pleaseant 600, Cambridge track meets, Boston University track meets, Middle School Cross Country meets, AAU New Englands, and Rojacks kids' race. Whats fun for me is the competition, trying to get a PR, and having people cheer for me. What isn't fun is when I get really nervous and when I have a bad race. KR: What are your goals for fitness and or running? Craig: My goal for running is to always make it to the Nationals as well as have fun. I love to run when i'm in good shape and have team mates to compete and train with. How old are you? What grade are you in? What do you like best in school? Craig: I'm 11 and in the 6th grade. I like gym, language arts, and math. KR: What's your biggest accomplishment in life. Craig: When I made it to the Nationals for the first time. My family got to come to Atlanta with me and we made a family trip out of it and had a lot of fun. We stayed at a hotel with a indoor pool. My next biggest goal is to beat my dad but he says that won't happen. Note from Craig's mom: Basically, our whole family runs, except for our oldest daughter. I train with our daughter Heidi, and Craig trains with his father. Heidi is more my speed, and I hate to say it, I can't keep up with my son, even when he is not in good shape. Right now Craig is only running maybe 3 times a week. After the cross-county season, Craig will take the winter off to rest, or participate in other sports. He's now just starting to prepare for spring track. We hope to see him advance to the nationals again this summer, hopefully in the 1500 and 3000 meters. Craig seems to do better in the distance events, just like his dad. He even runs with the same form. I would say that my son's biggest goal is to compete against his father, and win. I think we will see that soon, he has a little bit more speed than his father in short distances, like the 200. -Craig's Mom goodrow@infionline.net ![]() |
