SHIZUKA Ten Reasons Why You Won't Make a Great Team Captain
Here is Shizuka's list. What do you think? Do you agree?
1. Your brother or sister was captain before you.
2. You are the fastest one on the team.
3. You want to ask runners to do things that you yourself can't do.
4. You want the position, without the responsibility that goes
with it.
5. You lack communication skills.
6. You show favoritism for some runners over others.
7. You don't believe that the team is only as good as the
weakest member.
8. You are afraid to disagree with the coach.
9. You don't believe that the team attitude is a direct
reflection of team leadership.
10. Your grade level is below
2.5 or C plus.
Note from Shizuka: One should lead by example on and off the track. You don`t
need to sacrifice one for the other. Younger runners look up to a
very fast runners and if you are a very good student they will
try to study harder to be more like you.
Win-win for everybody.
You must accept this added responsibility ad burden to be a effective captain. You should give a
great deal of consideration before saying yes or no to this very
demanding and time-consuming position.
