EXERCISE IS FUN
You'll love it by Karynn Krill Weinstein M.S.

run Everyone of all ages should exercise. There are many reasons to exercise. One reason is, it's fun and it should be fun. You want to run as fast as you can and as long as you can. You can challenge yourself to run farther and longer. Because you exercise you will be better at playing sports. You will be able to run the bases faster when playing baseball or softball. You be able to run faster and spend more time on the soccer field without getting quite as tired. You will have enough energy to last the game. You will be able to jump higher and last longer when playing basketball. You will be able to do more activities without getting tired. You will have more energy to do the things you enjoy. That is what makes exercise fun.

If you are starting out you may want to start walking and eventually walk faster and walk farther. You can increase your speed from a walk to a slow jog. To challenge yourself, you may jog for a certain distance then slow down to a walk; then you can again jog as long as you can, then return to walking. For example, before you start your walk/run you may decide upon a certain distance. Your distance can be once around the block or twice around the block. The best thing to do is start walking, make it a fast walk and note how long it takes you to walk/run the certain distance.

How often should you perform your walk/run program? You should walk/run most of the days during the week. This means for you to walk around the block three to five times a week. As you walk more and more (about two weeks worth of walking) you will begin to feel healthier and have more energy. As you start to increase your energy level you will automatically want to make the walk/run program more challenging.

To make it more challenging you will need to walk faster and will need to add a slow jog. The following instructs the exerciser on how to add jogging to your program. At the beginning of the exercise session start walking around the block this is called a "warm-up". After walking for about two minutes then begin to jog. You should jog as long as you can comfortably. As you become tired from jogging then you can return to a walking pace.

Alternate walking with jogging while going around the block. Try to go around the block a little faster during each exercise session. Eventually, you will be able to run around the entire block. It is quite exciting to see yourself continually improve your ability to walk/run around the block, going faster and faster with less effort. This is what makes exercise fun!!!

Moms, Dads and Grandparents, too, it is important for you to exercise right along with your kids. Exercise should be a family activity that is enjoyed by all. Don't you want to be able to "keep up with your kids"? Wouldn't you like to feel healthy and energetic just like your kids? Attention Moms, Dads and Grandparents, I am sure you do not want to be "left behind" do you? Exercise is fun; you'll LOVE it!!!!
