I met Ian Fieggen years ago when I was doing a feature on shoelaces. Ian has had the number 1 shoelace site online since the year 2000, but his work was born in the 80s when he created the Ian Knot as a young man. To find out more about this interesting entrepreneur, visit shoelaceknot.com. |
LACES, The book by Ian Fieggen Book Review by Carol Goodrow

If can't tie, you will want this book. The cover is a practice board with a real pair of shoelaces. If you can tie, but you enjoy trying new things - ditto. You will love this book. It's full of new methods of lacing, some seen nowhere else.
In Ian Fieggen's LACES you will find:
15 hot knots, one of which is the Ian Knot - the world's fastest.
4 - color coded laces you can use to practice the various knots and lacing styles on the faux shoe book cover.
Riding Boot Lacing Style- Motorcycle or Equestrian
For the outdoor enthusiast, the book has a Hiking/Biking lacing method. According to Fieggen, "This method distributes pressure evenly and keeps the loose ends to the side, making it perfect for avoiding snagging undergrowth or bicycle chains or cranks. " Fieggen has all the angles covered. He continues, "For hiking, all knots should be on the inside arch of your shoe and for biking knots should be on the outside."
For runners, Fieggen features the Straight Bar tie, which he refers to as the Lydiard lacing method. after the famous marathoner and coach, Arthur Lydiard.
This method reduces pressure on the top of your feet.
LACES is for the practical and also the creative types. It's artsy and intellectual, frivolous and essential. But most of all it's fun and imaginative. A great gift for young and old.
