Title: Stone Fox

My Response: Stone Fox is a very good book. It is about a boy that needs to get money to pay for a dotor for his grandfather and the way he does it is he enters a race with the unbeatable Stone Fox. On a scale of 1 to 10, this book is an 8. 81 pages long, Anthony

Here is a letter from Lynnette Terrell, teacher, Arkansas. In the letter, Lynnette tells how her 7th graders used KR's Run to Read and Write Program to "read" a marathon. Maybe you'd like to plan for something like this, next school year.

Dear Carol,
Just wanted to send you a sample of what my kids did with the Run to Read and Write program. Every time they finished a book they filled out a (response) form. Some had 8-10; some had 30-40! Either way, they all read and read! The froms enclosed were the ones the kids picked for you!

I did Marathon Reading with them twice, once each semester. Marathon Reading lasted for twelve weeks. The first time the goal was to read 26 books in 12 weeks; the second time the goal was 2600 pages in 12 weeks. (I chose 12 weeks; becuase that's how long my marathon training was.) It was a fabulous activity! I had 20 marathon raders - which was exciting - but what was most exciting was all 124 of my 7th graders enjoyed reading! Besides filling out a form whenever a student finished a book, he/she wrote the title of the book and his/her name on a paper running shoe. we made a team goal to "run" all around our pod and back to my room. We made it over 1 1/2 times! It's amazing how far a gimmick can go - even with 7th graders! After the first semester of Marathon Reading, I gave all the kids a KR bookmark. After the second time, I gave the ones with 12 or more completed forms a Run to Read and Write Red Ribbon!

I also had an after school running club for the kids on my 7th grade team. I had 15 participate off and on. We ran from 3:15 - 4:30 every Tuesday and Thursday from October - May. I had many kids who would have loved to participate, but since the majority of our kids live in rural areas, they must ride the bus home. However, those who ran had a great time, and so did I. Three ran the Race for the Cure with me!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know how we used your program, and to tellyou how much the kids and I enjoyed the bookmarks and ribbons. Thank you very much!
