Vitamin C

Pink Snowfall with a View by Dylan

Pink Snowfall

Make this pink smoothie for tomorrow's school snack and fight infection.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup orange juice

4 ounce container strawberry yogurt (Dannon 'La Creme' tastes great)

1 peeled orange

10 red seedless grapes

5 strawberries

1 tablespoon freshly fallen snow (that is if you are making this while you are having a snowstorm)

DIRECTIONS
Have Mom or Dad help you blend all of the above in a blender.

Pour through a strainer to make sure that there are no big chunks of fruit left. That's all there is to it.

Put into thermos and refrigerate.

Take to school for healthy snack.

VITAMIN C

1. Helps your body fight infection.

2. Help cuts and sores on your body heal.

3. Keeps your gums healthy.

Many citrus fruits have Vitamin C, but you can also find Vitamin C in tomatoes, and green leafy vegetables.

C is for Cold Weather Clothing.

Make sure to wear the proper clothes when you go running in the winter. It's important to wear a hat and mittens in the winter. Lots of heat escapes through your head and hands.

Do you lose your hat and mittens at the school coat rack?
Tuck them deep into your sleeves of your jacket when you get to school.
Then you will have them when it's time to run.

Don't forget to keep that spare dry pair of socks in your backpack.
Bring an extra pair for a friend.
Make sure to wash, dry and return that extra pair of socks, if you borrow them.

Mr. and Mrs. Snowman Talk Vitamin C

We are Mr. and Mrs. Snowman.

We haven't been sick all winter.

We have some cuts from that windy day, last Friday.

See our little red spots?

They came from the wind blowing dried leaves and twigs at us.

Lucky for us, Billy gave us some of his 'Pink Snowfall'.

The Vitamin C in the oranges and strawberries will help make sure that the cuts heal.

It's still winter in the north.

But we have on our hats and will stay toasty warm if we go for a run.

Why don't you put your hat and mittens on and join us?

Thanks to all the kids who made the fabulous drawings for our ABC's of Nutrition Feature. Thank you to Victoria and Dylan for the great art work.
