PARENTS AND KIDS RUNNING TOGETHER
in a club

Dear Carol,
My friend, Martha (a fitness trainer), and I are enthusiastic runners. We train together and run marathons. Because we love running so much, we have decided to give back to our community with running and plan to put together a running club to train kids during the summer for a fun run in July.

After reading your article about Running with Josie (it's a very inspiring story by the way), I am now thinking maybe we should put together a running club to include parents to run with their kids.

What do you think about this and what kind of tips can you give us when we are dealing with parents and kids? Also, I am really glad that there is a Web site that caters to kids running; thank you!
I appreciate your time with this. Thank you.

Regards,
Emily Tani

Dear Emily,
Having a club for both kids AND parents is a wonderful idea. See this feature: Parents Day at Mileage Club
We had a parents' day at mileage club at our school and it was a tremendous success. I also wrote a piece awhile back on kids and parents running at Friday night track meets. The idea was... everyone warms up together for a half hour on the track and then various meets take place. While you may find it a little far fetched, the basic premise of everyone exercising together is sound. Night Out at the Track

But your idea is great. I think you should go to our ADVICE section, read all the the articles on running programs, start formulating what you have in mind and then write back again. Thanks for reading my story on Josie. Good luck.

Run for a lifetime,
Carol

I would love to see more opportunities in our country for families to exercise together.
