GOAL SETTING 2008 It's Valentine's Day 2008. The KR Web site is as busy as ever or busier. Perhaps the clientele has changed but the focus of KR is still the same - have fun and stay fit with running. Healthy kids - healthy families - healthy hearts.

It doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to write a heart-healthy goal. Use these printables any time. Great for the classroom, home, and club.
Here are some of the healthy living goals sent in to KR this year. What are your goals? How do they compare with ours? Are you meeting them or do they need to be revised? Valentine's Day is a great day to consider this. Do it for yourself, for your heart, and for the ones you love.
Here's my report card on my goals. I'm grading myself.
My goals? 1. Exercise for an hour every day. B- I try but some days I just can't beat the long work hours, weather, or the lingering cold I caught at school. 2. Record my Weight Watcher points in my Happy Feet, Healthy Food journal. A+ Every day!!!
3. Increase my running to be ready for a May half marathon. A- Yes, until I got sick. I needed to take a break and soon, I'll be back on track. 4. Lose the extra pounds I put on over the holidays. A 5. Oh, YES! Getting 100 goals from my visitors!!!!! I (Incomplete) |
While I didn't receive goals in quantity, the quality is here. Here's one of my favorites.
From Andrew
As a long time KR trekker, since "2000", I wanted to send my KR friend, Mrs. Carol, my "2008" healthy habit goals which are as follows: 1.) Eat 5-6 small, healthy meals a day to speed up my slow metabolism 2.) Choose more wisely what I eat at a friend's house or at a restaurant (especially at a buffet . . . HELP!) 3.) Break my 5-6 mi./hr. plateau on the treadmill 4.) Exceed 20 push-ups 5.) Surpass my 50 crunches 6.) Use my time wisely on the Bow flex and rowing machine. 7.) Run outside more during the summer even though the mosquitoes think I am their lunch 8.) Do not drive my mom crazy by exercising too long in the basement 9.) Enter a 10K run this year 10.) Try to resist the Valentine candy |
Andrew was one of my first KR visitors. Andrew was home-schooled and his mom used the Web site programs for part of Andrew's curriculum. He earned all the KR ribbons: blue, green, red, white, and rainbow. He grew up with the site and even though he is a high schooler now, he still checks in once in a while. He owns the KR T-shirts and books, and I dare say he will encourage his own children to participate in the site someday.
From Kathy - Kathy is a visitor who uses the site to build a running club. A special thank-you to Kathy for also sending a goal.
My goal is to increase the amount of time I run on the treadmill by 30 seconds every 1-2 weeks until I can run for 45 minutes.
From my schoolchildren:
I will eat more fruit.
I will run more.
I will eat some vegetables.
I will eat a carrot every day.
I will join the Happy Feet club this year.
I will write in my Happy Feet book every day.
I won't eat a lot of junk food.
I will only eat cookies before I go to sleep.
I will take my dog for a walk after school.
Last but not least Huey Pearson's goal:
To cross the 50,000 Mile still in great shape and feeling great. I am currently at 43,205 miles.
Huey is a lifetime runner who has always kept track. He's also a hero of sorts when it comes to healthy habits. He puts a low-keyed feel-good healthy tip in the mail every week for a select group of subscribers. Want to be on his list? Send him a note and he'll add your name.

KR 2008 - Most email that KR gets (and KR gets a lot) is in the form of requests for KR bookmarks, teachers wanting help in starting running clubs, educators looking for toe-tokens, parents wanting kids to run faster, with better form, or run farther, people looking for running events, clubs, and programs and others complimenting the Web site.

And for our visitors, it's never too late to set healthy living goals. Start any time! carolgoodrow@verizon.net
