SEND YOUR KID TO SCHOOL WITH A sack of health and nutrition
Next time you go to the grocery store, take a little extra time to plan for your kids' snacks and lunches. It can be tricky to look for foods that are both nutritious and appealing to your child, but it can be done.
Here are some suggestions:
- Choose fresh fruits and vegetables; avoid the candy aisle.
- Go for fresh baby carrots, peppers, cherry tomatoes, melon, berries, apples, and oranges.
- Choose chicken without the skin and avoid the fried chicken nuggets.
- Buy lowfat or no-fat milk; not whole milk.
- Does your child love hot dogs? If so, look for a low-fat brand.
- Search for some fat-free crunchy snacks or air-popped popcorn.
- Select a whole grain, low-sugar cereal, and stay away from the sugar coated types.
- Avoid the bologna and look for low-fat turkey breast.
- Have lots of healthy choices available for your child and pack ample snacks and lunches.

Editor's Note: Running and writing are more fun when they are combined. Warm up, lace up your running shoes and get out the door. Start up slowly, then pick up the pace and have a great run. Cool down, drink and stretch, then break out that running journal or artist's tablet and let 'er rip!
