PINs for VERIFIABLE PARENTAL CONSENT/Kids' Online Privileges

Parents are encouraged to apply for PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) for themselves and their kids. PINs will help us establish verifiable parental consent which is a requirement of the COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), which was developed to ensure that parents have control over the information that their children input online. A PIN will allow kids to have easy access to online privileges on this site. The procedure for applying for PINs is as follows:

1. Parent prints and fills out PIN application.

2. Parent checks off activities which child has permission to participate in.

3. Parent signs and mails form to Carol Goodrow at the address below.

4. Carol Goodrow in turn assigns separate PINs to child and parent. The PINs are to be used in the subject area of all email when child or parent writes to KidsRunning.com. They are also to be used in postal correspondence and or to respond to a new notice for consent sent out by Carol Goodrow.

Parents and children are not to tell anyone their PIN numbers. They are to be treated like passwords. The PINs are sent by postal mail to the parent and child. If the PIN is lost or forgotten the parent must reapply for a new PIN.
